Tom visits Tadcaster Quad Biking…

Autumn is undoubtedly in the air, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because this time of year provides the perfect conditions for quad biking. So with the promise of even more mud to play in we decided it was the ideal time for yet another off-road adventure. This time it was Tom our Partner Relations Executive who took up the challenge, and he visited Quad Biking Tadcaster to explore the wild woodland that surrounds Hazlewood castle. Here’s how the action unfolded..

tom

“Having never tried quad biking before I decided to go for the 45 minute Quad Adventure, which gives you a bit more time on the quad bikes, as well as the chance to take on some pretty exciting off-road obstacles.

When we arrived at the quad centre we couldn’t wait to get out on the course, and after checking-in at reception and signing a disclaimer we got straight down to action. Even though I’ve never done anything like quad biking before I picked up the basics really quickly, and because the quads were automatic they were fairly easy to control. Our instructor Rick explained everything really clearly too, and each time we reached an obstacle or steep incline/decline he made sure we knew the best way to tackle it.

The course itself was amazing, and there was plenty of mud to churn up as we wound our way through the woodland. There was a good mix of skills-based obstacles and fast straights too, which meant we could really push the quad bikes to the limit. The best obstacle we tackled though was the “limbo bar”, which not only tests your skill on the quad bike but your flexibility too. After our instructor had fixed a bar between two trees, we had the daunting task of passing underneath it without knocking it off – which as you can imagine isn’t easy! As the bar got lower and lower scraping through safely became even trickier, but we somehow managed to conquer the entire limbo obstacle without knocking the bar off once.

I didn’t expect the woodland trek to be quite as extensive as it was, and the time absolutely flew by. The whole experience was even better than I expected and I’d definitely recommend going for the 45 minute session. Hazlewood castle is the perfect setting for a quad biking experience, and we even saw a couple of deer running through the trees, which made our experience even more memorable.

I’d just like to thank the entire team at Quad Biking Tadcaster for a brilliant day, with a special mention for Rick our instructor who was very friendly, and patient with us from the off.”

Quad Biking for Children

It’s not just big kids that love quad biking, junior thrill seekers love heading out on off-road adventures too, and with Quad Nation venues across the country that specialise in children’s quad biking experiences there’s no excuse not to give this mad and muddy motor sport a go! But just in case you’re still not convinced, here’s everything we love about kids quad biking experiences..

1.) Children as young as 6 can give it a go!

The minimum age for quad biking varies at each of our venues, but you’ll find a huge selection of venues that are suitable for children as young as six-years-old. With full supervision from a team of experienced instructors, as well as all the necessary safety equipment provided, all you need to worry about is snapping some incredible photos of the action.

2.) Specially designed quad bikes

The quad bikes used for kids quad biking sessions are generally smaller, lighter and less powerful than adult quad bikes, which makes them easier to handle and just as much fun to drive! They’re perfect for first time riders and are ideal for exploring the most rugged parts of the countryside.

3.) Specially designed quad courses

A typical quad course features lots of mud, lots of puddles, and lots of fun – so it’s easy to see why kids can’t get enough of exploring the countryside on an ATV. The tricky off-road courses are designed to test both the quad bikes and their riders, which means racing up hills, winding round woodland paths and tearing up off-road tracks.

4.) A huge choice of locations

We have kids quad biking centres across the UK, which gives your budding adventurer the chance to explore some of the most spectacular parts of the country. You’ll find Quad Nation venues nationwide, with sites that specialise in children’s experiences in Walton-on-Thames, Southampton, Redhill, West Malling, Uttoxeter, Skipton, Bedale, Auchterhouse, Hexham, Neath, Newmarket, Powys, Truro and Ilfracombe, plus many more. Which means you’re seriously spoilt for choice.

5.) The most fun you can have on four wheels!

If you’ve ever been quad biking before you don’t need us to tell you how much fun it is, and it’s even more exhilarating for children trying quad biking for the first time. Nothing comes close to the rush of tearing through the countryside on a quad bike, and there’s only one way to find out why. So why not treat the explorer in your life to a day they’ll never forget?

Quad Racing – What’s The Story?

The rush of tearing through the open countryside on a quad bike is almost impossible to beat, but for some adrenaline addicts exploring off-road tracks and trails isn’t quite enough to satisfy their need for speed, which is why they turn to the heart-racing action of quad racing. But what exactly is quad racing?

Here’s everything you need to know about the fast and furious world of competitive quad bike racing..

The Riders

Quad racing is designed to give experienced riders the chance to show off their skills and unleash their competitive streak. It was originally created as an adult only event, but thanks to improved safety measures there are now a number of junior classifications too. Quad racing definitely isn’t for first time riders!

The History

Like most motor sports quad racing first gained popularity in the US, but it wasn’t long before it took off around the rest of the globe. Quad racing has even taken the UK by storm too.

The Tracks

ATV-Holeshot-Tips

No two quad racing tracks are the same, which is what makes this full-throttle motor sport so exciting and unpredictable. Typically tracks feature tight turns, exhilarating jumps, high speed straights and lots of mud! The track also depends on the format of the race, which we’ll come to next..

The Race Formats

Quad races can follow a number of different formats, which is usually dependant on where the race is taking place. Motorcross races take place on specially designed all terrain circuits, cross country races take place on challenging off-road courses, and hare scrambles take place in the desert. Some race formats aren’t dependant on the location though, and hill climbs, speedway, TT, flat track and drag races can take place almost anywhere.

maxresdefault

The ATV’s used for quad racing are built with performance, rather than utility in mind. They are lightweight and high powered, with improved suspension and a low centre of gravity. Speed and handling is key for a racing quad.

Final Fact

Quad bike racing has become so popular that there is even a quad bike classification for the Dakar rally. The world’s most famous off-road endurance event has two quad biking classifications, which have been won by Yamaha since 2009.

Quad bikes are perfect for tackling the tricky Highland terrain too, which means nowhere is off limits as you explore lochs, glens, rivers and mountains. But if you’re still not convinced by the Highland’s quad biking credentials, you can even choose to explore famous estates, wind down woodland paths and blast down beaches! The spectacular surroundings take some beating too, and you’ll even find venues a stone’s throw away from the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park at Bedale and Skipton. It’s not all about admiring the views though, and at quad centres such as Thirsk and Tadcaster you’ll get to test your skills by taking on woodland treks and off-road obstacle courses.

Kent

The Kent countryside might not be an obvious choice when it comes to quad biking, but with valleys and ridges running through the heart of the surrounding countryside there’s nowhere better to put a quad bike through its paces. It’s not just the challenging terrain that makes quad biking in Kent a must though, there’s also the Kent Downs to explore, which have been recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. So as you trek through woodland, over hills and down dirt tracks you’re guaranteed to take in some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery. But with so many outstanding areas to explore choosing between our Ashford, West Malling, Sittingbourne and Ashford Headcorn venues is almost impossible.

South Coast

Quad Biking Skipton

Here at Quad nation we love introducing people of all ages to the rush of quad biking, so we gave 10-year-old Jamie and his family the chance to take on a quad trek at our Skipton quad biking venue. Here’s how he got on..

jamie quad“When I found out we were going quad biking I couldn’t wait! I’d been once before and it was ace, so I was really excited to do it again.
On the day of our experience we got to the quad biking centre really early, so we had some lunch and some really nice chocolate cake. Because we were on a real-life farm we got to see loads of different animals too, and I even stroked a llama.

After lunch it was time to go quad biking, and because I’d been before I wasn’t nervous at all. The man who showed us how to drive the quads was really nice, and after I’d put my helmet and big gloves on I was ready for action.

jamiequad2

The instructor took us all over the farm and we got to go really fast, which was really exciting. Their were some enormous cows in one field, and even though it was a bit scary it made everything even more fun. I think I must have been looking at them when I crashed though, but luckily it didn’t hurt and I carried on driving.

I really enjoyed going through the field of cows, but the best bit was going up all the hills and through the mud! I loved the woodland and quarry sections too, because they were really bumpy. Our quad biking experience was even more fun than I thought, and I’d love to do it again.”

Jamie and his family took part in the 45 minute quad trek at our Skipton quad biking venue. To book your very own off-road adventure at this spectacular countryside venue visit our website, and book today!
